The fishing season on the Margaree River for trout starts on April 15, the Atlantic Salmon fishing season on the Margaree River starts on June 1 and goes all the way through till October 31, offering ample opportunities to fish for Atlantic Salmon and trout on the river. It is not permitted to retain any Atlantic Salmon in Nova Scotia .The first catch of an Atlantic Salmon on the Margaree River is usually late into the first week of June or the middle of the second week depending on water levels and a variety of other factors. For the most part, every time there is a raise in river water level from June all the way until the end of the season in October there will also be a new cohort of Atlantic Salmon coming in from the ocean shortly there after.
